Cognitive Systems and Qualcomm Bring Smart Home Awareness and Insights to Mesh Routers

Qualcomm Technologies to add Cognitive Systems’ Aura WiFi Motion technology to its mesh networking platform to deliver advanced motion detection and home automation

WATERLOO, Ontario–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Cognitive Systems Corp. today announced that its patented Aura WiFi Motion technology has been made a standard option for customers developing products based on the Qualcomm® Mesh Networking Platform. This technology will be on display at CES 2018 and roll-out to the industry during the first half of 2018.

“Qualcomm Technologies is a leader in wireless mesh networks that are transforming in-home connectivity and enhancing the consumer’s smart home experience”

Cognitive Systems’ Aura WiFi Motion technology is already commercially available in its own Aura smart home monitoring solution, recognized as a CES 2018 Innovation Awards Honoree. This expandable beacon-based solution uses advanced RF motion algorithms and machine learning technology to allow people to monitor their entire home without cameras.

Now, by making Aura WiFi Motion a standard option on the Qualcomm Mesh Networking platform, millions of existing and future connected devices will have the option to use Aura’s advanced motion detection – without the need for design changes or additional hardware – to provide smart home insights and controls to consumers or broadband carriers. Devices with Aura WiFi Motion will not only alert consumers when motion is detected, but can connect with home automation services like Amazon Alexa, Google Home, IFTTT and more, for a truly automated smart home.

“With the prevalence of wireless devices, there is a new light shining; it just isn’t visible to the human eye. We have created a way to capture that light and use it to understand movement – without cameras,” said Taj Manku, CEO of Cognitive Systems. “The Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform delivers robust and consistent connectivity in every corner of the home. Our collaboration with Qualcomm gives us access to an ideal platform that provides whole home coverage, which combined with Aura WiFi motion, provides full home monitoring with no need for additional hardware.”

“Qualcomm Technologies is a leader in wireless mesh networks that are transforming in-home connectivity and enhancing the consumer’s smart home experience,” said Rahul Patel, senior vice president and general manager, connectivity, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “Our vision for mesh networks as a central foundation for smart home innovation is exemplified by innovations like those invented by Cognitive Systems with its Aura WiFi Motion.”

Examples of Aura WiFi Motion on the Qualcomm Mesh Networking Platform will be on display at Qualcomm’s booth (Central Hall, Booth #10948) and at Cognitive Systems’ suite in The Venetian at CES 2018.
