Expert Says 6 Ghz Spectrum Is ‘The Biggest Wi-Fi Advancement in 20 Years’ for Canada

Expert Says 6 Ghz Spectrum Is ‘The Biggest Wi-Fi Advancement in 20 Years’ for Canada

Canada is set to boost Wi-Fi with new spectrum in the 6 GHz range, tripling current capacity for faster speeds and introducing Wi-Fi 6E devices. While not faster than Wi-Fi 6, Wi-Fi 6E supports wider channels, akin to expanding a highway for parallel traffic. The move addresses congestion and enhances applications like IoT and Wi-Fi sensing. The Wi-Fi Alliance predicts a global Wi-Fi value of $4.9 trillion by 2025. Wi-Fi 6E devices, categorized by power, will roll out indoors by end 2021 and outdoors in early-to-mid 2022. Despite Wi-Fi 6E's arrival, Wi-Fi 7 is anticipated by 2024, promising further bandwidth improvements.
